IFR CLÀSSIC 2012

PRESENTATION:

This is one of the Alternative Operations of Catalonian Airlines in the Fly-in category which was created, promoted and is performed in our virtual airline since its foundation in 2004.

The goal of this activity is to make a flight between two airports or a round flight go and return with two main challenges:

  1. the departure and arrival standard instrumental procedures must have some level of complexity, and
  2. the approach to be flown will always be a non precision approach, that is NDB or VOR or VOR/DME, but a precision approach (ILS and variations) will never will be flown even though the arrival airport has this procedure.

REQUIREMENTS:

No requirements are set for pilots not belonging to Catalonian Airlines in terms of flying skills although those are necessary to fly this kind of operation.

TERMS AND CONDITIONS:

  1. The departure or arrival airports are only Menorca (LEMH) and Reus (LERS).
  2. This event will be flown on 1st December 2012.
  3. This event will start at 17.00 h LT (1600 UTC).
  4. The aircraft to be used is at pilot's discretion although a propeller or light jet are strongly recommended.
  5. It is not allowed to use any navigation system like GPS or flight management equipment like an FMC and neither the aircraft equipment to fly precision approaches by means of ILS or LOC.
  6. The only equipment allowed to be used in any phase of the flight are the NAV radios (VOR, DME, VOR/DME) and ADF. As a consequence, the automatic pilot is only allowed to maintain altitude, heading or follow a VOR radial.

FLIGHT PLAN SUBMISSION:

  1. The use of the VATSIM flight plan prefile system is strongly recommended.
  2. We suggest to write IFR CLASSIC in field number 11. REMARKS in the flight plan mentioned in the point before.

ROUTES AND CHARTS:

  1. Routes can be found at VRoute.
  2. The real charts for both airports can be obtained for free at AENA website and following the links: AIR NAVIGATION (menu on top of page) ---> AERONAUTICAL INFORMATION SERVICE (AIS) (menu on top of page) ---> AIP SPAIN (menu at the left) ---> AD - AERODROMES (menu at the left) ---> link to AD2 - AERODROMES (center of the page) ---> choose the airport you wish. The enroute charts and documents can be found in the same link just searching under ENR - En-route when entering in the AIP SPAIN menu.
