INTRODUCTION

With this title and fly in we want to honor the fundational legend of the mediterranean culture.

Although it is relatively small, it is not possible to embrace our sea in a single fly-in and this is the reason why we start in the western part of it, in a legs based event which will take place from island to island. We will visit the following:

  • Menorca
  • Corsica
  • Sicilly
  • Pantelleria
  • Lampedusa
  • Sardinia
  • Eivissa
  • Mallorca
 
LEGS

LEG 1:

  • Maó (LEMH) - Ajaccio "Campo dell'Oro" (LFKJ)
  • Date: August 18th, 2012, 1500z
  • Sceneries: A good freeware scenery is available at http://www.virtualcorsair.fr/ (look for NOS BASES. At the end of the page there is a link for FS9). It is customisable so it can be configured depending on the computer performance.

LEG 2:

  • Ajaccio "Campo dell'Oro" (LFKJ) - Palermo (LICJ)
  • Date: September 1st, 2012, 1500z
  • Sceneries: Palermo: You will find a good scenery of Franco Baratti at AVSIM and you can also install the patch for this aeroport of the same author.

LEG 3:

  • Palermo (LICJ) - Pantelleria (LICG)
  • Date: September 15th, 2012, 1500z
  • Sceneries: For legs 3, 4 i 5, you wil find a good scenery at AVSIM. Make a search by Italy Islands and you will find two packages from Fulvio Mazzokan.

LEG 4:

  • Pantelleria (LICG) - Lampedusa (LICD)
  • Date: September 15th, 2012, 1600z (same day as LEG 3!)
  • Sceneries: Look at Leg 3

LEG 5.

  • Lampedusa (LICD) - L'Alguer (LIEA)
  • Date: September 29th, 2012, 1500z
  • Sceneries: Look at Leg 3 for Lampedusa. For l'Alguer, there's a very good scenery called Alguero 2006 from the Italian Scenery Design Project, but their web site appears to be now under construction. As this scenery is freeware and freely distributable, under request to the Operations Department we will try to find it for the pilot.

LEG 6.

  • L'Alguer (LIEA) - Eivissa (LEIB)
  • Date: October 13th, 2012, 1500z

LEG 7.

  • Eivissa (LEIB) - Ciutat de Palma (LEPA)
  • Date: October 27th, 2012, 1500z
 
ROUTES AND CHARTS
 
RECOMMENDATIONS:
  • Different legs may be flown with different aircraft.
  • Preferably use a propeller aircraft (turbo or piston).
  • Departure will be at 17 h Central European time and we will log in 30 minutes before to prepare the flight.
  • We suggest you to file the flight plan using the VATSIM Flight Plan prefile system up to two hours before log in. We also strongly suggest to include the following in the REMARKS of the flight plan: MEDITERRANEAN ODYSSEY and leg number. For example: MEDITERRANEAN ODYSSEY; Leg 1.
